May Day is one of my favorite days
May Day is the celebration of the return of spring! Traditionally, it was the halfway point between the spring equinox and the summer solstice! People would leave a paper basket or cone containing spring flowers and sweets on each other’s doorsteps, usually anonymously.
My sister and I loved to drop off flowers to neighbors on this day. It’s such a neighborly thing to do. We would scour our neighborhood for wildflowers, (which there are not many in the desert). We collected various colors of flowers and tied them with yarn. After laying the flowers by the door step, we knocked on the door, then ran and hid. It was so much fun and excitement to see our neighbor’s faces when they had their May Day surprise of flowers. This is a special memory with my Sister that I will always treasure!
